Have you ever wondered why things never work out the way you wanted? Do you feel like you are living under a dark cloud? Maybe you are, and would it surprise you to learn that you may have put it there yourself. Are you constantly complaining about your life, beating yourself up for past failures, looking in the mirror and not happy about what you see, or Feeling Worthless in life. There is a way to start changing those things around.
To develop a Positive Attitude and gain a more fulfilling life, you have to be aware and examine what you are saying to yourself because you do have a choice of what that will be. You hear the alarm clock waking you in the morning, letting you know it’s that time again to get yourself up and ready for the day ahead. Stop! Listen to what you are saying to yourself. Do you say “I’m so tired”, or “I don’t want to get up” or “It’s another miserable Monday”. You get the picture. Instead try saying “Everything is so good this morning and I am looking forward to starting a brand new week at work. It may sound a little odd at first, especially if your feelings are not actually going along with what you are expressing. These very simple minor changes in self dialog have so much power that eventually you will find yourself actually experiencing the feelings that go along with what you are telling yourself. In fact, it doesn’t take long at all.
It also won’t take long for a friend, family, co-worker, or even a perfect stranger to do or say something that will arouse some type of negative response inside you. It just happens and is difficult to avoid, but you still have a choice. So every time you hear yourself, either in your head or aloud, beginning to make a negative statement, make it a challenge to rearrange it into a more positive expression. There are always legitimate difficulties that present themselves in everyday living that need to be addressed and solving a problem is very different from having a negative attitude. You will find a shrinking audience for the “woe is me” stories.
Remember, you aren’t perfect. You are not going to always say and do the right things in forming your attitude, but the more you practice a conscious intervening on your thoughts the better your life will become. This way of living brings with it many benefits of not only a happier life, but a healthier one.
