It is no secret that Motivation is a big part of attaining success in any field and also one of the most common reasons why many of us fail in what we want to achieve. If only we had an unlimited supply of it to fuel ourselves to strive for our goals and accomplish things that we have always wanted to. That’d be just perfect!
While such a magical power might not be available to us, there are other ways in which we can make sure that we are constantly motivated. Especially in those moments where we feel down and out or times when we feel like giving up.
There are three things you can do right away to make sure that you stay motivated long enough to realize your dreams.
Keep your target goal in front of you
This literally means that you should ensure that your primary goal or the target that you want to achieve is within your eyesight for the majority of the day.
Say that you want to workout and shed the excess pounds while building muscle. Then it’d be a good idea to stick a ‘before and after’ progress picture stuck to your desk at work or on your refrigerator to motivate you constantly. You can find plenty of these pictures online, of people who lost a lot of weight and posted such pictures on the Internet.
If your goal is to make money then you can post a picture of nice cars, a comfortably large home that you want to buy or perhaps a picture of a yacht, to help keep your mind focused.
The purpose of this exercise is to keep the end goal always on your mind so that you find it easier to get off the couch and do whatever it is that you must to achieve success.
Get yourself a goal sharing buddy
One of the easiest ways to ensure that you are motivated is to get yourself a buddy that wants to accomplish similar goals as you. For instance, a workout buddy. If you want to learn an instrument then perhaps you can do so with another friend or colleague who has a similar goal in mind.
Your goals do not even have to be the same. Your workout buddy might be looking to add muscle to his already lean body while you want to shed the excess pounds. Or the person who you want to learn an instrument with might want to learn piano while you want to learn how to play guitar.
The main point is that you now have someone to keep you accountable and someone who will put in an extra word of encouragement on those days when you do not feel like doing anything towards accomplishing your goals. Motivating each other will not only help you both accomplish goals much faster, it will also built a great sense of camaraderie.
Actively look for inspiration
Inspiration leads to motivation. This is the exact order in which it happens. Remember how; when you watch Rocky, you want to immediately go to the gym and start working out. Or when you read the biography of an influential person, you feel an immense self belief that you too can achieve your own goals.
Now imagine if you were to be inspired like this on a daily basis. Can you see how easy it would be to stay motivated this way? So why not surround yourself with books, pictures and videos that inspire you.
Instead of spending an hour on Facebook, watch some inspiring TED talks on YouTube. On the commute to work, read a book that inspires you. Heck even when you are working, you can put an audiobook or the audio of a motivational talk in the background so that the motivational words slowly seeps into your brain.
Rest assured that motivation is all around you. You just have to know how to lure it in and use it for your purpose. The 3 ways mentioned above will give you a good head start with that. All that’s required is for you to take action.
